Tanzania

Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa. A land of spectacular game reserves and the dusty savannah grasslands of the Serengeti, wide expansive palm fringed beaches and the snowcapped peaks of Kilimanjaro. It’s also home to the colourful, fragrant and mystical spice islands of Zanzibar, across the Indian Ocean from the ancient kingdoms of the coastal region.

Climbing the peaks of Mount Meru or Kilimanjaro, exploring the crater of the Ngorongoro, driving through the grasslands of the Serengeti, or exploring the beautiful beaches of mystical Zanzibar, Tanzania has something to offer for everyone, be it climber, explorer or animal fanatic.

Building and Teaching

Madventurer's community building and teaching projects have been traditionally dotted around the North Eastern part of Tanzania, which is one of its most diverse and enticing regions, and certainly one of the most famous. It is here that the peaks of Meru and Kilimanjaro can be climbed, and the vast plains of the Serengeti and the famous Ngorogoro crater can be visited.

However, despite the amount of tourists visiting these parts of Tanzania, the rural areas have little assistance in terms of development. Those who earn money head to the cities in search of better jobs, those that want their children to have a good education send them to schools in the cities, after which they rarely return. Thus the communities are left behind, in a cycle of poor education, low income, and little in the way of development.

Thus Madventurer projects have been focusing on governmental schools in the area, assisting both in terms of infrastructure and education itself. On the slopes of Kilimanjaro, the schools chosen are ones in the rural villages on the foot of the great mountain which are in need of assistance in bettering their facilities.
