Madventurer is an ethical, development travel company which advocates the ethos of ‘Developing Together’. We encourage people to develop themselves through cultural exchange, adventure and by learning new skills whilst helping to develop others through contributing to the development of local community infrastructure, health and education projects.
Madventurer is an ambassador of responsible tourism and endeavours to reduce the negative, and increase the positive impact of its clients and operational practices on the social, cultural and physical environment within its operating countries.
All projects that Madventurer work on are both community led and owned. Madventurer ensures that all of its projects are sustainable and ethical by working alongside local NGOs, communities and academic research groups who provide expertise and local knowledge.
Madventure Travel Limited makes regular donations to the Mad Foundation charity so that the Mad Foundation can spend a minimum of 10% of the value of your project on community projects overseas. We cap our donation to keep the cost of the project down for you! However, should you wish to donate additional funds to the community, you can do this as a local payment direct to the community. This saves on overseas transfer fees and makes sure as much as possible is spent on the community overseas. The mad team are also keen to do their bit by helping to organise local community and fundraising activities, such as the 3 Peaks Challenge, that can help to fund larger scale projects
Social responsibility
Madventurer encourages its venturers to purchase locally produced goods and as a company utilizes as many resources as possible from local suppliers, including food, building materials, accommodation, skilled labour, guides, and transport. This is to ensure that as much revenue as possible stays within the countries it operates in and therefore benefits the local communities.
Environmental responsibility
Madventurer is aware that water is a limited resource in many of the countries it operates in and therefore encourages venturers to use the minimal amount of water whilst on projects. Madventurer also advises its venturers on how to minimize their environmental impact on their surroundings whilst overseas.
Madventurer recognises the environmental cost of its carbon emissions from flights for both staff and venturers. Therefore, Madventurer offsets the carbon emissions from company flights through donations to Climate Care to support sustainable energy initiatives and reforestation programmes.
Social responsibility
Madventurer ensures its venturers receive accurate pre-trip information concerning the destination countries in the form of pre-departure packs. These packs include information on cultural sensitivity, venturer responsibilities, obligations and codes of conduct for the countries we operate in.
Madventurer aims to minimize the negative impact it has on local cultures by keeping venturer group sizes small, sensitizing venturers to cultural differences, and enforcing a code of conduct whilst living within rural communities.
Madventurer aids its venturers’ cultural infusion through involvement in activities organised by the local community such as drumming workshops, language lessons, guided tours, local crafts workshops.
