Feedback - Kenya

"I enjoyed the teaching in particular but on the whole the entire experience was very enjoyable and worthwhile.  An excellent group of volunteers, we've all bonded very well.  The crew are brilliant and the ladies at the house are sweet, funny and kind.  My experience could not have been better" Kenya 2010 Alex Lugnani

"Weekends with the group - best bits especially Masai Mara and Naivasha.  Nic was very friendly and loved the songs on the guitar with everyone around the campfire.  Donna was nice and helpful with organising weekend activities.  Great trip"  Kenya 2010 Victoria Coombs

"Weekends, especially Masai Mara weekend, plastering the walls and teaching.  Loved every minute, life changing experience"  Kenya 2010 Hannah Dillon

"Teaching & weekends!!!  Campfires were amazing as well and I loved the kids.  Amazing 4 weeks, crew were good fun and very approachable" Kenya 2010 Georgie Hazell

"Seeing the beginning and end of a room which then shows your participation/contribution to the project.  Seen 2 classrooms being finished, and can see how much it will improve the school kids work and development" Kenya 2010 Alison Wilson

"Life at the house with team and local ladies - best bits!  Very enjoyable Kenya 2010 Philip Riding

"Donna and Nick were the most incredible crew leaders I could have ever imagined.  I wish I lived in the same country as them!  They made this volunteer trip for everyone I think.  I think the main reason why they worked so well was because everyone on our group had extremely similar personalities and having only know them for 2 weeks fells like I've know them for a life time.  It was just the most amazing experience ever"  Kenya 2009 Genna Radnan

"My experience was perfect wouldn't change a thing except I would have gone for longer.  Absolutely loved it, have to give praise to Ailsa and Nick for letting me have such a go at everything"  Kenya 2009 Peter Harkness

"The best bit of the project was the people with whom I shared this great experience.  The coming and going of new people every week was both a highlight and low point of this project for me.  A highlight to meet such a variety of fantastic people but the sadness of having to say goodbye to great friends every week" Matthew Easton Kenya 2009

"The experience that Madventurer offered was incredible and wonderful.  I was only there for 2 weeks and in that time I worked with Ailsa and Emily, I actually loved Emily I  thought she was fantastic.  Overall this experience is something I will always remember, I can't imagine having not gone and I already wish I could go back"  Kenya 2009 Dean Yamak

" Seeing the first classroom being painted - it was a great feeling giving the kids a better learning experience.  I loved every minute of it, the school was fantastic and really welcoming" Kenya 2009 Tara Dickinson

Ben Keene, Mad Builder, Kenya 2000

'The fundraising pack really helped me to get started being a little apprehensive at first. I wasn't sure who I was going to contact and the best way to approach it. The pack suggested that I approach my old school but stressed the need to offer something in return. I sent the covering letter to my old school to explain what I was doing and what I could offer them and they were really keen to help me out. I organised a slide show and information talk to the sixth form for when I got back showing the work I had done with mad and my school were brilliant and managed to secure £586 funding to help me with my expedition."
Emma Singh, Mad Medic, Kenya 2000

'I definitely believe that getting to know locals, travelling in smallish groups (project size), using local transport, and travelling on a budget is the best way to see a country.'

'It really felt as if I was contributing to the area, and the people seemed to appreciate the work that we had put in. I arrived at the foresters office on the first day and there were loads of paper cuttings from the national newspapers highlighting the need for re-forestation, so right away I knew that we would be helping. It was so good working in a big group, with all the other students, we just had such a laugh all day and I've got so many new friends now'
Ruth Harries, Combined Mad Teacher/ Mad Conservation, Kenya 2000

'It has been very interesting to gain an insight into East African culture'
Giles Dawnay, Mad Builder, Kenya, 2002

'I am a much more confident person with all the challenges that I now meet at university and work. I have definitely caught the travel bug and feel the trip was a brilliant way of becoming an independent traveller. I am now more open minded about developing countries and the people that live there. It felt fantastic to have so many people to talk, live and work with, especially as I had not met any of them before. It was an opportunity to make friends and spend time with people who have varied interests'
Natalie James, Combined Mad Teacher/ Mad Builder/ Mad Conservation, Kenya, 2002

“Overall this has been an incredible experience that I will never forget, the experiences I have had here have changed me as a person-not bad in just 5 weeks!”
