The Masai Mara - visiting for the months when vast herds of wildebeest and zebra arrive from the Serengeti in search of better pastures closely followed by Africa's predators - lion, leopard and cheetah. Visiting Nakuru National Park. Cycle through Hells Gate National Park. Then game drives into the 14,00 square kilometre Serengeti National Park itself as well as Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest extinct volcano,for the chance to see view rhino, hippo, lion, elephant, hyena, buffalo, zebra, impala, wildebeest, cheetah, monkey, ostrich and flamingo. A game cruise to see herds of hippos and elephant in Chobe National Park and game drives across the vast Etosha Pan, and so much many more.
With four days on the exotic spice island of Zanzibar. Arriving by hydrofoil at Stone Town explore the maze of busy and narrow, winding streets, coral brick houses and bazaars. We organise a spice tour for some history of the island centred around the slave and spice trades. Visit the red colobos monkeys in Jozani and Prison Island with its giant tortoise. Swim and snorkel in the crystal clear coral waters. Scuba diving can be arranged from the beach cottages where we stay, and enjoy time relaxing at the local beach cottages, as well as local fresh seafood.
Cruise Lake Kariba on a houseboat for some rest and relaxation, chilling in the on-board jacuzzi, and lie back in a mokoro to be poled through tranquil waterways of lilies in the Okavango Delta.
Adventure plus - rhino trekking, walking with the lions, elephant rides, white water rafting down the mighty Zambezi, bungee jumping, scuba diving, quad biking, sandboarding and sky diving. On 30 June to 8 September 09 departures climb to the base camp of Kilimanjaro.
Explore local villages and barter in traditional markets including for traditional Chiefs Chairs in Malawi where you can fish with the locals, share a game of football and enjoy village visits, as well as a wide variety of water sports including snorkelling, wind surfing, water skiing and scuba diving. Horse riding is also popular particularly the swim ride where the horses take to the lake, as are hikes in Malawi's beautiful surrounds.
Spend time to find out about the traditional Maasai who still shun modern ways, some of whom still continue to dye their hair with ochre and live on a diet of milk and blood obtained from their cattle. A visit to a traditional Masai Boma (village) is arranged with time to market shop amongst displays of ebony carvings, spears and bead work. And spend time with the semi - nomadic Himba tribe who still maintain traditional beliefs in ancestor worship and sacred fire rituals.
Discover the creatures of the desert with a guide on the dunes in Namibia, hand feed giraffe at the Giraffe Sanctuary in Nairobi, and find out about the work with orphaned elephants at Sheldricks, and then at our journey's end take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain, Cape Town.
Further notes: On departures 30 Jun 09 - 13 October 09 the safari allows time to stop over at Marangu at the base of Kilimanjaro for base camp hikes on our journey to Dar Es Salaam on the Indian Ocean coast.
On the months as well when the famous migration of zebra, Thomson's gazelle and wildebeest has moved out of the Mara into the Serengeti we readjust the Kenyan itinerary (departures 2 Nov to to 7 Jan 09) to head out early on day one to spend a day in the beautiful Sweetwater Reserve at the foot of Mount Kenya. Sweetwater has all the game you would wish to see as well as chimpanzee sanctuary.
