Peru, independent Inca Trail, 7 days, start and finish Cuzco
Spend a week retracing the steps of the ancient Inca civilisation. Take the opportunity to explore Cuzco on your own, or with a guide, to discover both the colonial and Incan histories of this fascinating town. Then join our expert local guides and porters to hike the beautiful and challenging Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, where there is plenty of time to explore this incredible site.
Experience the rewarding challenge of hiking the Inca Trail, Explore the impressive ruins of Machu Picchu, Take in the ancient and colonial sights of Cuzco, Discover Inca history and culture.
These trips depart daily. The trip costs £340, with a local payment of $150usd, this should be paid on the first day of your trip locally. These trips cannot be booked without having your passport details to hand.
Days 1-2 Cuzco
Spend time in Cuzco at your leisure, adjusting to the altitude before beginning the trek. Discover Spanish colonial style, Inca architecture, Baroque churches and ancient ruins in this blend of cultures. Begin uncovering the history of Peru in these fascinating city streets.
Days 3-6 Inca Trail
The famous trail is part of a series of highways that once linked the Inca Empire all the way from Ecuador to Chile. Hike this historic route, a demanding journey that is incredibly rewarding, as it passes through amazing and diverse scenery dotted with ancient ruins. Trek over high mountain passes, camp out, and gain an appreciation for the terrain of Peru. Rise early on the last day and climb the steps of the Sun Gate to watch the ruins of awesome Machu Picchu emerge from the mist below - an unforgettable spectacle. Spend the day exploring this huge archaeological site before resting weary legs on a train ride back to Cuzco.
Day 7 Cuzco
Soak up more Incan culture and history with a visit to the Museo Inka, or the fascinating ruins at Tambo Machay and Puca Pucara. If the trek has whet your appetite for adventure, there are plenty of adrenaline-pumping sporting options in Cuzco. Explore the surrounding hills by mountain bike or join one of the many jungle adventure tours that abound in the area.
