The four major reasons for admission to hospital in Fiji are non-communicable disease such as diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases and cancers. Injuries of various natures including sport related and those due to negligence, foods poisoning and circulatory also contribute to a large number of admissions. As a Madventurer medic you will have the opportunity to gain experience about health care in Fiji, shadowing doctors and nurses and assisting where ever your level of experience depicts

Project Details: As a Madventurer Medic your project will be based in Lautoka community general hospital, which department will depend on your level of experience and particular field of interest.  Please note you must be in your 3rd year at university or above to join a medic project. Ideally on your medical elective whilst at university. 

Venturers Role: This project is only available to elective students and above and then depending on your own interest and confidence your role can be discussed with our crew and the hospital representative. 

Location: You would be living in Lautoka, in the Madventurer accommodation. Lautoka is Fiji's second biggest city with an estimated population of 40,000; it's located on the West of Viti Levu near the International Airport of Nadi. Famous for being the centre of Fiji's sugar industry (and nicknamed ˜Sugar City"), Lautoka will give you a fascinating insight into daily island life away from the well beaten tourist track.

Accommodation: Whilst on a project you will be living in the Madventurer house in the suburbs of Lautoka overlooking the bay in the distance. Rooms are a dormitory style with 3 double bunk beds in each, which at capacity means upto 6 people per room.  The house is based about a 15 minute walk from the town centre and within walking distance of most of the schools that we work with. Your crew will be living in the house with you, to provide all the support you may need.
